Welcome to our new KU TRIO SES & STEM Associate Director

We are pleased to announce that Alejandra Hernández-Castro will transition into the role of TRIO SES & STEM Associate Director.

For the past 18 years, Alejandra has worked for multiple programs at the KU Center for Educational Opportunity Programs (CEOP) including most recently as Program Coordinator for Heartland CAMP. She has a personal connection to CEOP programs that increase access to higher education.

“As a first-generation college graduate who came from a low-income household, I understand the challenges in navigating and affording college. I often felt out of place and lost on campus as an undergrad. These personal experiences fuel my passion to help students from underrepresented backgrounds feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to achieve their educational and professional goals.”

Alejandra holds two degrees from the University of Kansas, a BA in Political Science and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology. In addition, she participates in KU’s Latinx Faculty and Staff Council and is an advisor to UNITED at KU (a student organization for undocumented students).

In her new role, she is excited to make connections with Jayhawks who participate in TRIO. “One of the greatest joys of working for TRIO is watching students grow as scholars, individuals, and professionals. I’m very much looking forward to seeing our students succeed and being part of their journeys, as well as being able to advocate for our participants on an administrative level.”

Please join us in congratulating Alejandra!
